GREATER = IOWA SCHOLARSHIP BOWLING TOUR

 

2007 – 2008 Playing Rules (16th Season of Competition)

 

 

 

1. The organization shall be known as the Greater Iowa Scholarship Bowling Tour (GISBT).

 

1a. The organization will conduct 10 monthly tournaments each season beginning in August and ending in May each year.

 

2. Each tournament= shall be USBC certified and open to USBC youth members only.  Any entrant may be accepted, or rejected, subject to the tournament director's decision. 

 

   &nbs= p;        2a. Any bowler who is INELIGIBLE to earn scholarship awards will NOT be eligi= ble to bowl in GISBT competition.  This includes NCAA bowlers.

 

3. Each tournament will consist of a singles event with girls and boys each having their own separate divisions.

 

4. All scoring is done on a scratch (no handicap) basi= s.

 

5. Entrants are required to submit their entry fee pri= or to the tournament. Entries close at 9:00 the morning of the tournament. Walk-in entries will be accepted, provided there are available spots remaining.

 

5a. Walk-in entries are subject t= o a $3.00 late fee (at Tournament Director’s discretion).

 

5b. Any late fees collected shall= be included in that month's prize fund.

 

6. Any check returned because of non-sufficient funds (NSF) must be paid in cash prior to participation in the next event.=

 

   &nbs= p;        6a. Each NSF check will also require a $20.00 bank fee, which also must be pa= id in cash prior to entry into the bowler's next event.

 

   &nbs= p;        6b. Only one non-sufficient fund (NSF) check per bowler per season will be allowed.  After that, cash o= nly will be accepted for that bowler. 

 

7. Bowlers who are unable to attend a tournament for w= hich they have paid in advance must notify Tournament Directors at least 48 ho= urs prior to the tournament that they will not be attending. 

 

7a. The bowler must also notify Tournament Directors if they would like to have their entry fee held over= for the next tournament.  This c= heck will be carried over for 1-MONTH ONLY.&n= bsp; After that, the check will be destroyed, and a new entry fee check must be submitted.

 

         = ;   7b. Any bowler who fails to notify Tournament Directors at least 48 hours in advance may forfeit their entry fee.&nbs= p; Directors' decisions regarding forfeiture of entry fees will be fi= nal. 

 

8. Bowlers are required to check in at the tournament = desk prior to tournament competition. Each bowler shall draw for his or her la= ne assignment. Once their lane assignment sheet is drawn, they must immediat= ely sign this sheet at the check in desk.

 

8a. Check in begins at 8:00, or at Tournament Directors discretion.

 

8b. Tournament bowling will begin= at 9:00, or Tournament Directors discretion.

 

9. Bowlers arriving after the tournament has started w= ill take zero for each frame missed.  Tournament Directors may refuse to allow a bowler to enter the eve= nt once competition has started.

 

10. In the event that an entrant becomes injured or ill during a tournament, they must take zero for each frame missed.

 

   &nbs= p;        10a. In the event a competitor must withdraw from competition, they must first notify a tournament director.

 

11. All scholarship funds shall be returned 100%.=

 

12. All scholarship funds for each event will be depos= ited in the SMART Fund.

 

13. Prize ratio shall be at least 1 in 6.

 

14. The scholarship prize list for each tournament wil= l be the decision of the tournament Directors.

 

15. Entry into each tournament shall be $40.00 (ENTRY FEE BREAKDOWN: $22.00 scholarship fund, $10.00 lineage, $6.00 expenses, $2.00 Tournament of Champions).

 

16. Greater Iowa Scholarship Bowling Tour annual membership fee shall be $20.00. This must be paid prior to competition in= the year's first tournament. For each tournament missed after that, new membe= rs will deduct $2.00 from this membership fee.

 

17. One lane courtesy will be in effect.

 

18. Volunteer scorekeepers are encouraged.<= /span>

 

19. ONLY Bowlers, scorekeepers and tournament officials will be allowed in the bowling area.

 

20. Each bowler shall be responsible for his or her own scoresheet. This scoresheet MUST be turned in to tournament officials following completion of each round. Scoresheets not properly completed, or not turned in, MAY result in NO points awarded to the competitor.

 

20a. Any bowler who TWICE fails to turn in a scoresheet will NOT BE ELIGIBLE for participation in that seaso= ns' Tournament of Champions.

 

20b. Any discrepancy in a competitor's scoresheet during or after the qualifying round MUST be repo= rted to tournament officials prior to the start of match play.

 

20c. Each player is responsible f= or ensuring his or her scoresheet is correct, and is initialed by another pl= ayer following each game.

 

21. All bowlers will roll 8 (eight) qualifying games.<= o:p>

 

22. Following completion of the qualifying round, the field will be cut to the top 8 (eight) boys, who will advance to 8 games = of round-robin match play. The top 6 girls will advance to 6 games of round-robin match play. (NOTE: If there are less than 16 girls entered, t= he top 4 girls will advance to 4 games of match play).

 

22a. If there is a tie for the fi= nal spot in match play, there will be a 9th and 10th frame roll-off.  If still tied, 9th and 10th frame roll-offs will continue until there is a winner.

 

22b. All qualifying pins carry ov= er to match play.

 

23. Unsportsmanlike conduct will be reviewed by the tournament directors, and the bowler may be subject to a warning, or immediate disqualification from the tournament. In severe cases, a bowler= may have his or her membership revoked. The tournament director’s decis= ion regarding conduct will be final.

 

23a. Any bowler compromising the integrity of the sport, or the GISBT may be subject to disqualification, suspension or expulsion.

 

24. A Sportsmanship Award will be awarded to 1 boy and= 1 girl each season.

 

   &nbs= p;        24a. This balloting will take place at the March tournament each season.<= /o:p>

 

24b. These awards shall be voted = on by the general tour membership; however, new members at the March tournam= ent will not be eligible to vote in this balloting.

 

24c. To be included on the ballot= , a bowler must have bowled 3 of the first 7 tournaments.

 

24d. Each Sportsmanship Award win= ner will receive a $50.00 scholarship award. If there is a tie in this ballot= ing, each winner will receive a $50.00 scholarship award.

 

24e. The Sportsmanship Award will= be a once-in-a-lifetime award.  Once a bowler has won the award, they shall not be eligible to win again, and = will not be included on the following year's ballot.

 

24f. The previous year’s winners may be asked to assist in presenting the current season's Sportsmanship Award winners.

 

25. A Rookie of the Year Award, and a Most Improved Bo= wler Award will be awarded to 1 boy and 1 girl each season. 

 

   &nbs= p;        25a. In order to be eligible for the Rookie of the Year Award, a bowler must n= ot have bowled MORE THAN ONE GISBT event in his/her career prior to the curr= ent season.

 

&= nbsp; 25b. In order to be eligible for the Most Improved Bowler Award, a bowler must have

bowled in at least 5 events during the past season, an= d at least 5 events during the current season.

 

   &nbs= p;        25c. Rookie of the Year Award and Most Improved Bowler winners will be chosen = by the tournament directors, based on a review of each bowler's performance = over the first 9 events of the season (August-April).  These awards will be presented a= t the Tournament of Champions.

 

26. Tobacco products and alcohol WILL NOT be permitted= at any time during competition by participants, parents, coaches, scorekeepe= rs, or tournament officials. Violation of this rule may be cause for immediate disqualification from the tournament, and offending members may have their membership revoked.

 

27. Tournament rules, scores and scholarship award win= ners will be mailed or delivered by hand to each paid GISBT member. This information will also be available on the tour's official web-site.<= /o:p>

 

28. DRESS CODE: All bowlers MUST wear shirts with coll= ars. Male bowlers MUST wear dress slacks. Female bowlers may wear skirts, slac= ks or dress shorts with hose. Absolutely NO JEANS of any color, or HATS of a= ny type will be permitted. Any exceptions and/or questionable attire will be reviewed by the tournament directors.

 

29. Tournament Directors will rule on all protests and complaints. Any protest must be made by participating bowler in writing to the tournament directors on site after bowling is completed. In the event= of a protest/complaint, all affected parties will be notified. Any decisions made by the tournament directors will be considered final.

 

30.  Each= GISBT event (August – April) will conduct Junior Gold qualifying.  However; there must be sufficient entries to warrant conduction qualifying, and there must be available openings at the National Junior Gold Tournament to warrant conducting qualifying.

 

   &nbs= p;        30a. Cost for entry into junior gold qualifying will be $20 per event.

 

       &nbs= p;    30b. There will be separate boys and girls division in Junior Gold qualifying.  However; in the= event there are not enough entries, entries may be combined to form one (1) division, with the winner advancing in their respective division.

   &nbs= p;       

   &nbs= p;        30c. Junior Gold qualifying score will be determined during the 8-game qualify= ing round ONLY.  Winners will be announced prior to the start of match play.  Any discrepancies in Junior Gold scores must be reported to Tournament Directors at that time.  In the event of a tie, there wil= l be a 2-frame roll-off to determine the qualifier.

 

            30d. Bowlers advancing to the Junior Gold National Championship Tournament sha= ll have their information and entry fee ($150) forwarded to USBC for placeme= nt into the Junior Gold National Championship Tournament.<= /p>

 

   &nbs= p;        30e. In the event a bowler cannot attend the national championship tournament, they must notify GISBT Tournament Directors immediately so that an altern= ate can be contacted.  If a bowl= er does not proceed with this notification, or fails to show up for the nati= onal tournament, it may affect their ability to enter all future Junior Gold qualifying events in GISBT competition.

 

       &nbs= p;    30f. In the event a qualifying bowler cannot attend the National Junior Gold Tournament, they must notify GISBT Tournament Directors as so= on as possible, and an alternate shall be named.

 

       &nbs= p;    30g. Any bowler qualified who has qualified for the National Championship Tournament, and does not have their necessary paperwork rece= ived at USBC by May 31, will forfeit their spot.  An alternate will be contacted a= s a replacement.

 

31. The Tournament of Champions shall be each season's final event.

 

31a. The 24 boys and 12 girls with the highest season-long point totals (for the first 9 tournaments) will be eligible to compete in this event.

 

31b. All bowlers tied for the fin= al spot in the field will qualify for the Tournament of Champions.

 

31c. To qualify for participation= in the Tournament of Champions, a bowler must have bowled at least 5 of the first 9 tournaments of the season.

 

31d. In the event a competitor is unable to bowl, his or her spot will be offered to the first available alternate.

 

31e. Each eligible bowler MUST ha= ve their entry fee received at least TWO WEEKS prior to the Tournamen= t of Champions.

 

31f. Any bowler failing to submit their entry fee prior to this deadline will FORFEIT their eligibility.

 

31g. EVERY BOWLER participating in the season-ending Tournament of Champions will receive a scholarship award. 

 

32. After the 9th event of the season, the top 5 boys = and top 5 girls (in point totals) will be declared that season's GISBT All St= ar Team. Each bowler shall receive a plaque for this achievement.=

 

32a. After the 9th tournament of = the season, the boys top point earner will receive a $100.00 scholarship and a plaque as that season's GISBT Bowler of the Year. The girls top point ear= ner will receive a $50.00 scholarship and a plaque for being that season's GI= SBT Bowler of the Year.

 

33. Each bowler will receive 5 points for each tournam= ent bowled in. Additional points shall be awarded to ALL MATCH PLAY FINALISTS based on their final standing each tournament as follows:
